Updated January 1, 20xx:
We are accepting new requests for trees.

Although our primary grant funding has expired, we have decided to remain active and use a sliding-scale pricing system to keep planting trees in town.
It usually takes two to four months from a submitted request to the tree(s) being planted, but sometimes less and sometimes more.

We are one of a few programs in Oakland that can help you get a new tree.
Another is our sister-program, the Sierra Club Tree Team.
(Click on the name above for the link to their page.  Their page includes a link to their request-form.)
We have worked closely with them for as long as we've been around.
The Sierra Club Tree Team operates on a sliding-scale pricing system -- pay what you can, and they will use other people's donations to cover the remainder.   As of fall 2019, the typical cost for a tree is around $100, and the typical cost to cut a new tree-well out of the sidewalk (if needed) is $200.  If you would have qualified for a free tree from Trees for Oakland's previous CAL FIRE grant (see below), the leaders of the SCTT want to provide a free tree to you, too.  We are helping the SCTT find funding from various sources to let them fulfill that goal.

“Disadvantaged communities” qualify for free trees
  • Click HERE to see a map of the eligible parts of Oakland.  At the top left corner of the map, click on the red "magnifying glass" and enter your address.  If it shows up inside the green outline, your address is eligible.
  • Made possible by a California Climate Investments grant through CAL FIRE.
  • Trees must not be under high-voltage electrical wires.
  • If you are able and willing to pay some amount anyway, we will put your donation toward expenses not covered by the grant, such as additional removal of pavement for new trees and plants.
  • If your location does not qualify for the grant, we will refer your request to another organization that can help you.
